Truth and reconciliation is a concept of restorative justice that seeks to heal relations between opposing sides by uncovering all pertinent facts, distinguishing truth from lies, and allowing for acknowledgement, appropriate public mourning, forgiveness and healing. It has been used extensively in Africa and Latin America, as well as in Canada, to deal with war crimes and human rights abuses, especially those related to the colonization and oppression of Indigenous peoples.
